Sending that is set up right, from the first email

The parts of transactional email you would otherwise wire together yourself: authentication, keys, limits and a record of what went out.

  • 100 emails a day, free

    The Email API is included on every plan. Free sends up to 100 emails a day and 3,000 a month, counted in recipients. No card and no approval queue.

  • Signed as your domain

    Mail goes out DKIM-signed for the domain you send from. Sending turns on by itself once the verification and DKIM records resolve; SPF and DMARC are checked and explained.

  • One HTTPS request, or SMTP

    POST /api/v1/emails with a Bearer key: from, to, cc, bcc, reply-to, HTML or text, attachments and tags. Apps that only speak SMTP use port 587 with STARTTLS.

  • Keys that can only send

    Sending keys carry email:send and email:read, expire after 7, 30 or 90 days and are shown once. Revoke one app’s key without touching the others.

  • Usage you can see

    Today, the billing period and the hourly burst limit, live in the dashboard, the CLI and MCP. A used-up quota answers 429 with Retry-After; nothing is billed on top.

  • Our own mail servers in France

    Postal sends and mailcow hosts mailboxes, on our servers in the EU — no third-party email service. The send log keeps the sender, a recipient summary and the subject, never the message body.

Recent sends shows whether our mail server accepted each message. Open and click tracking and bounce webhooks are not available yet.

From domain to first email in three steps

Send from your code in one request

The same endpoint as the dashboard’s quickstart, which also has Node.js, Python and SMTP versions.

  • The key comes from an environment variable, never from your code
  • HTML or plain text, cc, bcc, reply-to, up to 10 attachments and tags
  • The answer is a message id with the status queued — or 429 with Retry-After when a quota is used up

Email questions

Is the Email API really free?

Yes, on every plan. Free includes 100 emails a day and 3,000 a month, counted in recipients (to, cc and bcc). No card needed.

What do I need to start sending?

A domain you own. Add it, publish its verification and DKIM records, and sending turns on by itself once the DNS check passes — no approval and no waiting list. Then create an API key.

What happens when I reach a quota?

New sends through the API are refused with 429 and a Retry-After header until the day (UTC) or the billing period starts over. Nothing is billed on top. SMTP messages sent while a quota is used up are held by the mail server and not delivered.

Can I send over SMTP?

Yes: postal.hostingsurge.com, port 587 with STARTTLS. The SMTP password is shown once, and a new one replaces the old. SMTP sends count toward the same quotas.

Do you track opens, clicks or bounces?

Not yet. Recent sends lists every API send and whether our mail server accepted it, and a message’s delivery attempts can be read through the API. Open and click tracking and bounce webhooks are not available.

Are mailboxes available?

In early access: webmail, IMAP, POP3 and SMTP, aliases and a catch-all, spam and virus filtering, and import from your old provider over IMAP. Limits and pricing are not set yet.

Can I move my existing email?

Yes. IMAP import copies an existing mailbox from your current provider into a new mailbox here. Your old provider keeps receiving mail until you change the domain’s MX record.

Where is my email handled?
